Without sounding like an alarmist, I am afraid of the route the campaigns for 2011 elections are going in Nigeria, especially, for the PDP.
The various sponsored media campaigns (advertorials and so-called "news" items) are anything but reasonable. The politicians are not addressing issues that affect us as a people: lack of power, good road, quality education, functional refineries, good health care, etc, and how they hope to solve these innumerable infrastructural problems. Instead, they are busy carrying out campaigns of calumny and share blackmail against each other. Threatening fire & brimstone. This, to me, portends a great danger to the Country's future.
The guilty party here is mainly the ruling PDP. Instead of giving a good leadership example as the self aclaimed "largest party in Africa", it is actually behaving like a toddler. The other parties are also battling with internal undemocratic politiking. And did I hear you ask how many other parties? The truth is that there are only four real parties (PDP, ACN, APGA and the new CPC). Others are tax collectors clubs. They just wait till election periods to collect their stipends from INEC.
I think we should have moved far beyond where we are now as a people and Country.
The questions begging for answers are:
1. Where have we got it all wrong?
2. Can the present crop of recycled political leaders lead us to the glorious land?
3. What can the young ones do to set the right course for Nigeria?
Please bare your mind!
